THE MYTH OF CORPORATE CULTURE DEBUNKEDSEPTEMBER 29, 2017
CULTURE MATTERS It’s a tale as old as time in the world of entrepreneurism. Nowadays every professional has their own stance on the matter. Big businesses continue to be featured for going the whole nine yards on the culture-front - offering glamorous perks and incentives for customers and employees alike, making it seem impossible for small to mid-sized companies to compete.
Don’t be fooled by this common misconception! Your company does not need to rank among Fortune 500 to create a desirable, authentic and respected culture.
The truth is every organization has a culture of their own, whether they are aware of it or not. It is important to recognize this fact, and more importantly, to accept it. This allows you to set the tone of your organization –regardless of your size.
Your culture is much more than the perks you offer, policies you adopt or compensation you grant; Culture is the cohesive force defining and unifying all aspects of your company. It is the driving force that sets the tone and aligns the company’s mission, vision and core values to everyday life.
DIVE IN
A company’s culture speaks volumes on the identity and future of the organization. It gives each company a personality. It is wise to invest the time and resources needed to craft your culture intentionally, embracing your values and standards, making businesses want to work with you and people want to work for you. BE INTENTIONAL & INNOVATIVECulture is shaped by leadership, extending outside the office walls and beyond standard business hours. It is the duty of the founder (as the organization’s visionary) to make cultural change happen and to ensure it is consistent and adaptable with growth. Your culture is an extension of you! Craft a culture that portrays who you are and who you want to become. This means hiring people who have the natural capacity to embody your values and who display the potential and desire to grow along with your visions. Don’t let your culture become an afterthought. It is important to realize that your culture is not set is stone. – Culture grows as your business grows! Take advantage of this fact. Be innovative, lead by example, listen and hear what your employees have to say, celebrate victories, and embrace feedback. The rest will fall into place.
