ASK GERBER: HOW TO STAY LASER FOCUSED DURING THE HOLIDAYS
DECEMBER 23, 2019
Whether you love it or hate it, the end of the calendar year is a sandwich of holidays with endless things to do. From Halloween until New Year’s Day, your (already crazy) to-do list blows up with seasonal commitments.
As a busy entrepreneur, you also have business demands and end of the year obligations. How do you stay focused on your business to-do list and plan for the coming year when you’re being pulled in a million different directions personally and competing against family traditions?
Know Your Rhythm
Most businesses have seasonality to it—or a time of year when things slow down a bit. If your slower time is now—people aren’t buying and your budget is already blown—you may choose to enjoy yourself, have a great time and party it up! We say more power to you!
If you have a business like ours, it’s a different story. We are super busy at the end of the calendar year, trying to finish our work before year-end. We’re so busy, in fact, that we have a restrictive vacation policy for our employees where they can’t take vacation between October 15 and December 15.
Have a Plan. Work the Plan.
You have to understand the tempo and rhythm of your business. Whether this is your busy or slow time, it’s important to carve time out to work on your goals for the next year. It can be challenging to establish your business goals when you are busy at work andat home. We’re with you. We manage this by intentionally scheduling time to plan.
We know it’s vital to our future growth, so we block time out on our calendars, hunker down and get it done. We are reflective of the last 12 months and think about ways we can improve. Now is the perfect time for us to set fresh goals and start the New Year with renewed momentum.
And once it’s completed, we can have a great time and party it up, too.
While work needs to get done and plans for next year need to be set, it’s important to enjoy this time of year with your family and friends, partake in those holiday traditions and have fun. After all, that’s why we work so hard—to enjoy life and the people in it with us.
